Canada Remembering The 100 Million

Federal government will fund Hill monument to victims of communism

An anti-communist group will get up to $1.5 million in federal funds to build a monument on Parliament Hill.

Tribute to Liberty, a registered charity, has already received approval to build a memorial to people killed by communist regimes.

By last summer the group had raised $140,000 for the project whose estimated cost is up to $4 million, but had already spent a large portion of the money raised. It asked for public funds.

On Friday, Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney and Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander jointly announced funding of “up to $1.5 million over two years” under Citizenship and Immigration’s Inter-Action program.

Of course there isn’t a shortage of Canadian communist apologists…

A recent history of hate-crime hoaxes

Racism and hate are real. Hate crimes do happen — some violent, some just threatening.

But unfortunately, there is no shortage of wannabe heroes — who in most cases have never suffered discrimination — actively undermining the cause by committing fake hate crimes, often with the idea of drawing attention to an issue.

The Daily Caller had a piece this week on a recent and especially pernicious hoax at Oberlin College, perpetrated by an overzealous, outspokenly liberal Obama campaigner and his friend. The two young men terrorized their campus with racist graffiti, flyers, and emails sent from a fake address using the name of the university’s president, at one point placing a flag with a swastika in a campus building. The incidents received national news coverage.

Decision on Keystone in danger of being delayed until 2014

The State Department’s decision on the Keystone XL pipeline is in danger of being pushed into 2014.

State’s internal watchdog on Friday said it won’t complete until January a review of allegations that the department hired a contractor with a conflict of interest to review the pipeline project.

Enabling Delusion

Bradley Manning Is Not a Woman – Pronouns and delusions do not trump biology.

We have created a rhetoric of “gender identity” that is disconnected from biological sexual fact, and we have done so largely in the service of enabling the sexual mutilation of physically healthy men and women (significantly more men) by medical authorities who should be barred by professional convention if not by conscience from the removal of healthy organs (and limbs, more on that later), an act that by any reasonable standard ought to be considered mutilation rather than therapy. This is not to discount the feelings of people who suffer from gender-identity disorders — to the contrary, those feelings must be taken into account in determining courses of treatment for people who have severe personality disorders. But those subjective experiences do not render inconsequential the biological facts: A man who believes he is a woman trapped in a man’s body, no matter the intensity of his feeling, is no such thing. The duty of the medical profession is not to encourage and enable delusions, but to help those who suffer from them to cope with them.

Bitter Clingers At Oberlin College

The Great Oberlin College Racism Hoax of 2013

A massive racism hoax took place at Oberlin College in February 2013 in which two students made seemingly racist, anti-Semitic and other such posters, graffiti and emails for the purpose of getting a reaction on campus, not because they believed the hostile messages.  At least one of the two was an Obama supporter with strong progressive, anti-racist politics.

School officials and local police knew the identity of the culprits, who were responsible for most if not all of such incidents on campus, yet remained silent as the campus reacted as if the incidents were real.  National media attention focused on campus racism at Oberlin for weeks without knowing it was a hoax.
