More Appeasement

It is hard to come up with a single issue that Obama has been on the right side of in his first 100 days. Case in point…

The Obama administration has asked a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit against Iran filed by Americans held hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran 30 years ago.

The request comes in a $6.6 billion class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington. Fifty-two American diplomats and military officials were held captive for more than a year at the end of Jimmy Carter’s presidency by a group of Islamist students who supported the Iranian revolution.

The hostages were released on Jan. 20, 1981, just minutes after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as the new president.

In court papers filed Tuesday night without any announcement, the Justice Department argued that the agreement to release the hostages, known as the Algiers Accords, precluded lawsuits against Iran. – Fox News

Canada Fills Obama’s Leadership Void

Thus far, the Obama administration seems more interested in continuing its global apology tour, Latin edition, during this weekend’s Fifth Summit of the Americas than he is in leading. His accusations against America are stronger than his promotion of the institutions and treaties that bring authentic democracy and prosperity to our hemisphere.

“Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors,” he said. “We have been too easily distracted by other priorities and failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress through the Americas.”

Having never set foot south of our border nor paid much attention to the region until this week, he should speak for himself.

Canada, by contrast, is taking the lead. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said his top priority at the Summit is to champion free trade, in line with the will of the region’s real democracies.

“Our focus for the Summit of the Americas will be about free trade and avoiding other countries moving back to protectionist measures,” Harper’s spokesman said. “Canada’s position is that we must not allow the impact of the (financial) crisis to reverse our hard-fought progress towards freer trade and investment.” – IBD

Thousands of homes in America could be contaminated from toxic Chinese drywall, making it the latest “Made in China” scandal.

“This is a disaster of biblical proportions,” said Thomas Martin, president of America’s Watchdog, a citizen-based consumer advocacy group. Used in construction, the tainted drywall emits a sulfur gas that mixes with moisture in the air to produce sulfuric acid—a highly corrosive acid found in acid rain. – Epoch Times
