What’s Worse Than Using Kids For Human Shields?

September 3, 2006

Egyptian Weekly on Hizbullah’s Armed Children’s Militias
In its August 18, 2006 edition, the Egyptian weekly Roz Al-Yusuf featured an investigative article by Mirfat Al-Hakim titled “Hizbullah’s Children’s Militias.” The article reveals that Hizbullah has recruited over 2,000 children aged 10-15 to serve in armed militias, and that the Hizbullah-affiliated Mahdi Scouts youth organization is training them to become martyrs.

Brits Profile Muslim Charity

August 26, 2006

Britain freezes Muslim charity

A CHARITY at the centre of concerns over the funding of the alleged terrorist plot to attack trans-Atlantic aircraft has had its assets frozen.

The Charity Commission is investigating the activities of Crescent Relief, which raised large sums from British Muslims for the humanitarian operation after the earthquake in Kashmir last October.

The inquiry follows the revelation that one of the men arrested at High Wycombe, a town near London, in connection with the alleged plot was a fundraiser for the charity.

It has also emerged that a co-founder of the charity was Abdul Rauf, from Birmingham, whose son Rashid is in custody in Pakistan, where the authorities claim that he is a “key figure” in the conspiracy. – The Australian

RCMP search for suspect after 2 Saskatchewan Mounties shot in police pursuit

n070901.jpg

MILDRED, Sask. (CP) – RCMP continued a massive search Saturday for a suspect accused of shooting two Saskatchewan Mounties during a chase after they responded to an assault call.

Cpl. Keith Bott of the Spiritwood RCMP said the officers – one male and one female – underwent lengthy surgeries at a Saskatoon hospital. He added the next 48 hours would determine how well they respond.

“They’ve completed surgery and we’ve just basically been advised that it’s just . . . sit back and a waiting game now,” he said.

Bott said he did not know the medical state of the officers, who are based at the Spiritwood detachment, although media reports said both were in serious condition. Their names were not released.

He added both officers were wearing bullet-proof vests.

RCMP spokeswoman Heather Russell said the two officers had “very serious gunshot wounds,” but wasn’t sure where they were hit.

The officers were shot Friday night during a police pursuit on the country roads around the farming community of Mildred, Sask., about 140 kilometres west of Prince Albert.

Bott said a suspect considered armed and dangerous had not yet been found, although officers aided by a search plane and the Saskatoon major crimes unit were combing the area. Also brought in were RCMP members from Regina, a SWAT team and search dogs, while a helicopter from Edmonton was also expected. More @ CP

Congressional Morons Vote For Oil Dependency

May 18, 2006

House Votes to Keep Offshore Drilling Ban

The House rejected an attempt late Thursday to end a quarter-century ban on oil and natural gas drilling in 85 percent of the country’s coastal waters despite arguments that the new supplies are needed to lower energy costs.

Lawmakers from Florida and California led the fight to maintain the long-standing drilling moratorium, contending that energy development as close as three miles from shore would jeopardize multibillion-dollar tourism industries.

“It’s a grievous assault on Florida and other (coastal) states,” declared Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Fla., of attempts to end the drilling prohibitions that Congress first imposed in 1981 and has reaffirmed every year since.

The moratorium bars oil and gas development in virtually all coastal waters outside the western Gulf of Mexico, where most of the country’s offshore oil and gas wells are concentrated. More @ AP
