The link is there but the MSM wants to suppress it. They wouldn’t be able to if the Bush people had a clue on how these reports should be handled. The biggest cause of this war’s unpopularity is the administration’s inability to justify it.
Because the media relied on a politically-motivated leak and didn’t actually read the report before telling people what it said, they essentially reported a lie to the American public. Instead of getting ahead of this, or at least right behind it, the Pentagon and the White House dithered for most of the week about how to respond. It took three days before they finally released the entire report to the public, and the delay became a story in itself. What was the Bush administration hiding? Only their own incompetence at public relations, as it turned out.
The full report shows clearly that Saddam Hussein had made himself one of the most significant sponsors of terrorism in the world. While much of it intended to keep his own people from killing him, a significant portion was directed towards the US, and some of that funded and supported Osama bin Laden. That story, however, won’t get told, thanks to the malfeasance of media that prefers leaks over source material and an administration that hasn’t learned a thing about messaging in five years.
This ought to be big news. Throughout the early and mid-1990s, Saddam Hussein actively supported an influential terrorist group headed by the man who is now al Qaeda’s second-in-command, according to an exhaustive study issued last week by the Pentagon. “Saddam supported groups that either associated directly with al Qaeda (such as the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, led at one time by bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri) or that generally shared al Qaeda’s stated goals and objectives.” According to the Pentagon study, Egyptian Islamic Jihad was one of many jihadist groups that Iraq’s former dictator funded, trained, equipped, and armed.

I’m glad this report has come out. What a mountain of documents to sift through and translate!! My ex is a born and bred Baghdadi immigrant to Canada. Some of his relatives were victims of the Butcher of Bagdad’s regime and we heard horror stories from other relatives as well.
So, yeah, I knew what Saddam Hussein was doing long before most people in the West knew. Whether he was trying to restart his WDM program or not was immaterial to me. He WAS the WDM. I supported this war from the get to because of it.
