Racial profiling to determine who is Muslim [and specifically radical kinds] won’t work. Being Musilm doesn’t depend on colour of skin, no more than being white means someone is Christian.
You can’t say it won’t work until you try it. It won’t be perfect but it is better than doing nothing. The Israeli model of profiling is probably best which uses a lot of phsycological methods and questioning. We can’t sacrifice lives to political correctness.
In fact I can say it, and I have history to back me up too. David Suzuki would certainly agree with me too after being racially profiled with his Canadian family during WWII and being removed from ordinary Canadian society to “garud against terrorism and sabotage”. By racially profiling people airline security suspects of being Muslim, they’ll be distracted from real signals, and be radicalizing more people through the creation of another subjugated segment of society. It’s simply bad policy, and is quite indefensible, especially when the threat of radical Muslims on planes is so overblown it’s staggering. If you were a radical Muslim in Israel looking to kills a lot of Jews, would you wait in a LONG LINE of people in a building to get onto a plane, before blowing yourself up? Racial profiling in that easy “workaround” would do diddly squat.
[...] Further to the discussion over the pro-racism cartoon at the above link, is Uncle Meat’s suggestion that racial profiling is better than the status quo. I think it works too, but in a different way than the intention of the profilers. It ends up radicalizing those subjected to inequal treatment. It took “radicals” in both the black, and women demographics to enact changes over decades in regions where they recieved starkly different institutional treatment due to their appearance. It’s just common sense that if all Canadian Muslims are subjected to state sponsored racism, there will be massive resentment and protest [and even terrorism] generated against Canada. If you think we’re threatened now when we haven’t even done anything formally wrong to Muslims, just wait until we treat them all like we treated Japanese Canadians during World War II. [...]
